How to Replace the Fuel Pump on a Mercedes C-Class

To replace the fuel pump on a Mercedes C300 W204, the fuel level must be below half (preferably a quarter tank). The tank is of the "saddle" type: the main pump is on the passenger side, while a transfer pump moves fuel from the other side. The pump has one main electrical connector (plus another attached above, not part of the pump). The fastening is a metal ring (about 7 in in diameter) that is very difficult to unscrew: a specific tool is needed, otherwise, you risk damaging the plastic tank. Once the ring is removed, the pump comes out (a spring pushes it). Disconnect the connectors and hoses (one for transfer). The new pump should be inserted with the float facing the front of the car, with the two springs at the back. Reconnect the hose and the connector. Replace the ring and close the cover with four 8 mm bolts. The new pump (found on eBay with code 366660305639 for $64.25 with free shipping) should provide more pressure and prevent boiling.
