How to Replace the Tailgate Gas Struts on a Mercedes Vito

Model: Mercedes Vito MK 3, W447 - Years 2014-2024

Lift the tailgate and support it with a hydraulic jack. Disconnect the retaining ring that connects the gas strut to the vehicle body using a flathead screwdriver. Do this for both struts. Now remove them and install the new gas struts. Snap the retaining ring that connects the new gas springs to the tailgate, then snap the ring that connects them to the body (again using a flathead screwdriver). Slowly lower the jack to avoid any issues if the new struts are not installed correctly. Open and close the tailgate several times to ensure everything is properly installed.
