How to install a short shift kit on a Mini R56

In this video we can see how to install a Coolerworx Short Shifter, that is a short throw shifter, on our Mini R56. These devices can be found on Coolerworx.com and are installed following the instructions shown in the video: we remove the center console, using a screwdriver or a plastic lever to remove the shift boot, then we pull up the console to release it; disconnect all electrical parts, then go under the car, remove the exhaust pipe clamp, take the exhaust off the hooks, remove the 12 nuts holding the heat shield in place, then remove the lower cover. Remove the U clips by prying, disconnect the two ball joints of the shift cable, remove the four bolts holding the shift assembly in place and lower it from under the car. Remove the gasket under the OEM assembly, and position it similarly on the Coolerworx shifter: here we need help to install the shifter assembly from the bottom of the car; pull the shift cables and secure the U clips, then add grease to the ball joints and put them in place, reposition nuts and bolts, and check that with the cables connected we can engage all gears, including reverse; if not, we will have to adjust the cable length. Once everything works properly, screw the lower plate under the shifter, reassemble the heat shield and exhaust removed earlier and from inside the car, use the mounting screws for the reverse lockout and the lateral movement tolerance that we prefer. Finally, reassemble the console and reconnect all components.
