Removing the cover of the external rear-view mirror is very simple as it is simply clipped in place with plastic tabs along the edge; start by applying some tape (or a couple of layers of masking tape) on both the edge of the cover and the plastic frame to protect it from any scratches that the screwdriver tip might cause; then insert the tip of a screwdriver into the gap between the cover and the mirror frame and lever to unclip the fixing tabs.
