Problems with the distribution chain on the 1.5 TDi engine YH01 Peugeot Citroen Opel.

In this video we can see the issues of an engine produced by Peugeot, Citroen and Opel: it is the 1.5 TDi YH01 which in this case is mounted on an Opel Grandaland-X. The main problem is the premature breakage of the timing chain that controls the camshafts. The cause is the defective timing chain tensioner, often made of plastic, which wears out or breaks, leading to the chain snapping. The consequence is an engine out of phase, with serious damage to pistons, valves, camshafts, which in some cases can lead to a total engine replacement. The symptoms to watch out for are: an abnormal noise in the valve cover, an increase in noise when cold or during acceleration, and of course the warning lights coming on: the official solution from the car manufacturers is a modified repair kit, which includes a new camshaft carrier housing, with the chain pre-assembled, a hydraulic timing chain tensioner, rockers and new gaskets. If we hear strange noises, let's stop immediately and call a tow truck; in the workshop we should specifically ask for the modified kit, because the old original parts are subject to the same defect.
