How to check the wear of the timing belt on a Puretech 1.2 engine

Let's see how to check the wear status of the oil-bath belt of a Puretech 1.2 engine. What we need is a thickness gauge, which looks like a clamp or a fork with two teeth of different heights. The first tooth corresponds to the height of the new belt, while the other to the minimum allowable thickness. We open the hood and remove the oil cap, which will show us a section of the timing belt. Before any check, we dry the belt section we are going to measure well, then we gently place the tool on the smooth surface of the belt. If the taller tooth can pass over the belt without scratching the sides, the belt is still in good condition. If instead only the lower tooth (the one of minimum thickness) passes or none of them pass, then it must be replaced immediately.
