A big problem with PSA YH01 engines

The HY01 PSA engine (later Stellantis) is associated with the 1.5 Blue HDi diesel engine, installed on the 2008, 3008, and 5008 models from around 2018. The first versions of this engine had a 7mm chain, as shown in the video, and experienced issues with early wear and breakage of the timing chain that connects the camshafts, which could lead to serious engine damage; subsequently, Stellantis introduced a stronger timing chain, 8mm, which seems to have solved most of the problems. However, to switch from the 7mm chain to the 8mm chain, it is not enough to just replace the chain, but also the camshafts, the crankshaft sprocket, the chain guide with its tensioners, and the timing cover. This means that the upgrade is not a simple and cheap procedure at all, so much so that if the engine has suffered significant damage, it may be more cost-effective to replace it with a reconditioned one.
