To replace the EGR valve on a Peugeot 3008 MK1 (1.6 HDi), remove the engine cover. Symptoms of a faulty EGR include loss of power, injection problems, and warning lights.

Disconnect the intake pipe from the turbo (turning it clockwise), then disconnect the pipe from the resonator by pressing the tabs and pulling it out of the air box. Move the brake fluid reservoir by unscrewing the two Torx T20 screws. Disconnect the mass air flow connector and the breather pipe.

Using a 13 mm socket, unscrew the two bolts of the air box's silent blocks. With a Torx T20 socket, unscrew the three screws of the air filter flange (do not remove them: they are designed to stay in place).

Remove the support tab, the flange, and the air box. Now you can see the EGR valve. Disconnect it, unscrew the two screws with a Torx T27, and remove it. The valve may be difficult to extract: move it back and forth laterally.

Important: after installation, you must perform the learning procedure for the new valve with a diagnostic tool; otherwise, the ECU may register errors such as P1459. On PSA 1.6 HDi engines, the learning occurs automatically after turning off the ignition, but you still need to clear the error codes first.

Clean any carbon deposits with a vacuum and screwdriver.

You can find the new valve on eBay with code 157781591651 for £198.87, with free delivery. Slide it into position, reattach the support screw, and reconnect the connector.

Reassemble the air box, flange (tilting it to insert the tabs first), screws, silent blocks, brake fluid reservoir, mass air flow connector, and pipes. Reinsert the engine cover.
