Replacing Shock Absorbers on a Smart

Model: Smart Smart 451 - Years 2007-2015
Part: Shocks

Replacing the shock absorbers involves more than just removing the shock assembly from the chassis and the wheel arms; the most critical part is removing the spring and replacing the piston. For this reason, we will show you how to do it safely. In this video, we analyse a shock absorber from a Smart, starting by positioning everything in a metal vice, and applying spring preloaders to prevent the spring from flying off and hitting us, as well as to facilitate reassembly. Once done, you can remove the central nut and the various washers, slide off the spring, and replace the damaged parts or the entire shock absorber.
