Before you can start, open the boot of your Smart ForTwo. Begin by disconnecting the electrical connectors attached to the motors that operate the roof. Next, unscrew and remove the screws that secure the motors in place.

Once you have completed this step, you can remove the motors from their housing, successfully finishing the disassembly. At this point, you are free to install the new roof motors, and the roof will return to normal operation.
