In this video, see how the multi-plate clutch on motorcycles works, consisting of a series of "driven" plates mounted on a hub; the surface of the plates has a high coefficient of friction (sintered bronze, graphite, etc.). Alternating with these are the "driving" plates made of steel.

All are housed in the so-called "bell" and rotate together, pressed by four coil springs, and push against a plate that in turn presses on the pack of plates.

By pushing on the plate and the coil springs from the opposite side, you will release the pressure on the plates via the clutch pushrod, connected to the lever that the rider uses to disconnect the transmission from the engine. Power is transmitted from the engine to the gearbox only when the plates are engaged.
