Immobilizer: what is it and how does it work

In this video we are explained what the immobilizer of our car is and how it works: basically it is a system that prevents the engine from starting, but it is the system in use since the late 90s and linked to electronic injection; in fact, it inhibits an essential part of the engine, namely the ECU, which is responsible for fuel injection; this is combined with the code contained in the car key. And above all, this happens automatically, without us having to put our heads into it. All this discourages amateur thieves, but not professional ones who replace the ECU with a decoded one, which allows them to start the engine even without the key code. In case of problems, there is an emergency procedure that allows us to drive a certain number of kilometers (i.e. to reach a mechanic); for the Panda the concept is different and the youtuber explains it in detail.
