Have you ever wondered what the differences are between iridium and platinum spark plugs? Platinum is thicker and more resistant than nickel, while iridium is harder and more durable than platinum. Iridium is the most resistant material to high temperatures and erosion: iridium spark plugs last up to 120,000 km, while platinum ones last up to 60,000 to 80,000 km. In iridium spark plugs, the electrode is thinner and the spark is more precise and powerful, providing better ignition at low revs and in humid conditions. Platinum provides a stable spark but is less efficient than iridium at low revs. In terms of price, platinum is priced between nickel and iridium, which can cost up to 50% more than platinum. Regarding compatibility, iridium is ideal for modern high-efficiency engines, such as turbo, hybrid, and direct injection engines, while platinum is perfect for mid-generation engines.
