How to Replace the Windscreen on a Car

Today we will see how to replace a car windscreen independently. The first step is to remove the damaged windscreen. Clean the area around the windscreen and detach the wipers, plastic, and rubber components that block access to the edges. Remove the windscreen seal and from inside the cabin, detach the interior rear-view mirror. Using a nylon wire, remove the windscreen by following the outline of the glass. Carefully insert the wire guide and pass the wire from outside to inside through the groove to cut the sealant. To assist during the operation, insert the wire into two handles to pull with more force. After passing the wire with suction cups, extract the damaged glass. Position the new glass on a work surface, taking care not to scratch it, and using a soapy solution, clean and degrease the glass. Apply sealant to the new glass and use a scraper to remove the previous sealant from the windscreen plastics. Treat the frame with soapy water to remove rust and the previous toxic primer with a solvent. With a cotton ball, apply the new primer along the frame. The primer prevents corrosion of the glass. Next, position the new windscreen and with the gun positioned at a right angle to the surface, fill the nozzle with sealant. After applying the sealant, wait 15 minutes. To adhere the glass to the frame, position the suction cups and masking tape to prevent the glass from slipping. Remove excess sealant with a tissue before it hardens and reinstall the previously removed components.
