Risks and consequences of using winter tires in summer

One question that many people ask themselves is whether it is allowed to use winter tires even in summer. From a regulatory point of view, there are no prohibitions, except for the speed code, which must be equal to or higher than that indicated in the registration document (and in the case of winter tires it could be). Therefore, between April and November, there is a risk of a fine and withdrawal of the registration document, with the consequent obligation to change tires and undergo a visit and test at the motor vehicle office. Beyond this, it is important to consider the higher consumption of these tires in summer, and how they affect fuel consumption; furthermore, road holding could be compromised, and braking distances are certainly longer at high temperatures, so these tires are not designed for summer use. It should be noted that often M+S tires are also calibrated for cold temperatures and suffer from high temperatures like winter tires, and therefore have the same drawbacks.
