Differences Between Summer, Winter, and All-Season Tyres

This article clarifies the differences between winter, summer, and all-season tyres, distinguishing between various driving conditions. If you drive mainly in temperatures above 7°C (dry or wet), a summer tyre is recommended. For frequent winter conditions, a set of winter tyres is advisable. If you primarily drive in the city and do not encounter heavy conditions or special roads, all-season tyres are certainly recommended. Visually, summer tyres have fewer grooves but larger longitudinal channels; winter tyres are much more grooved and slotted for better grip on the road. All-season tyres have a hybrid tread pattern. Michelin has, however, developed a summer tyre with winter certification, offering superior performance compared to all-season tyres (although the best solution is always a set of winter tyres). Regarding winter tyres, always check for the 3PMSF symbol, and remember that driving in summer with winter tyres is neither economical nor safe.
