How to Remove the Timing Belt on a Volkswagen Golf Mk5

To replace the timing belt on a Volkswagen Golf Mk5: open the bonnet and lift it, securing it with the prop rod; raise the car using a column lift to access the underside (if necessary) and remove the front undertray (if space is an issue). Disconnect the wiring harnesses using pliers, and remove the plastic soundproofing panel and the coolant reservoir with a screwdriver. Use a spanner to loosen the tensioner pulley and slide the belt off. With a socket wrench, unscrew the tensioner pulley bolt and remove the water pump. Fit the new water pump, tensioner, and belt, and tighten everything with the socket wrench.
