Steering Tie Rod End Replacement Instructions

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

Lift the vehicle and apply an axle stand to support it safely during disassembly. Compare the new tie rod end with the one to be removed to ensure compatibility (the ends are asymmetric).
Then, undo the fastening nut of the tie rod end at the hub and before pulling it off, loosen the nut on the axial joint. Remove the tie rod end and unscrew it from the axial joint, counting the number of turns to maintain a reference for the alignment. Screw on the new tie rod end with the same number of turns, secure it to the hub by tightening the respective fastening nut, and lock the adjusting nut on the axial joint. It may still be advisable to have the wheel alignment checked by a tyre specialist.
