Rear Shock Absorber Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Vento A3, MK 1 - Years 1991-1998

Replacing the rear shock absorber is significantly easier than the front one since the damper and spring are co-axial and there is no need for special clamps as the spring is not pre-loaded. Lift the vehicle on a ramp, remove the rear wheel and the fixing bolt of the shock absorber from its support on the rear axle. Lower the vehicle and access the rear of the cabin to remove the fixing nut of the shock absorber support, allowing you to extract it. At this point, remove the fixing nut of the upper plate and slide it out to take off the support rubber, spring, and bellows. Prepare the new shock absorber by extracting the rod, insert the spring, bellows, and end stop spacer, then reassemble the upper plate. Proceed in reverse for the installation on the vehicle.
