Replacing the gear shift knob and boot on a Volkswagen Passat is a fairly simple operation that can be done independently. We start by removing the previous boot, then we lift the lower part of the boot with the help of a removal tool and lever. Be careful not to damage the hooks of the lower plastic part. We continue by pulling the boot as much as possible to uncover the metal hook that must be loosened with pliers. We then remove the boot and gear shift knob. We insert the boot and then the knob, making sure the fabric fits into the plastic square, and reassemble everything.
