How to Replace Front Brake Pads on Audi A6

This guide outlines the steps to replace the front brake pads on an Audi A6. First, after removing the wheel, disconnect the clip that holds the pads in place at the center of the caliper. To do this, apply some leverage using a simple screwdriver. Behind the caliper, you will find the ABS sensor connector that needs to be unplugged and the wear sensor that can be removed by turning it half a turn. Next, to extract the pads, you will need to remove the caliper from its bracket by unscrewing the two hex bolts located at the back, protected by two plastic caps. Before doing this, gently pry between the pad and the rotor to allow the piston to retract slightly, preventing the pads from getting stuck in any groove created by rotor wear. Once the two hex bolts at the back of the caliper are removed, you can take it off and access the pads for removal. Before installing the new pads, you must retract the piston back into its housing. Now you can close the caliper with the new pads inside and reattach the two hex bolts to secure it to the bracket.
