To replace the timing chain on an Audi A6, completely remove the timing chain cover by loosening all its mounting screws. Once the cover is removed, you will have access to the sprockets around which the chain is arranged.

The chain must be removed by loosening the screws that secure the tensioner. This will allow you to install the new replacement part, tensioning it by tightening the sprockets and the tensioner.

After installation, reattach the protective cover.
