Resetting BMW ECU

Today, you will learn how to reset the ECU of your car. You will need a few tools and a bit of patience to carry out the operation. A spanner, pliers, a pair of gloves, and a plastic bag will suffice, but you will need to wait about ten hours after switching off the engine for all the current to dissipate. After this period, put on the gloves and open the bonnet to locate the battery. Open the cover and unscrew the nut from the positive connector (marked with a "+" sign and coloured red). Once you have unscrewed it, wrap the red connector in a plastic bag. After completing this operation, replace the cover over the battery and close the bonnet. The warning lights should be off. Leave everything undisturbed for another 10 hours or so to allow the ECU to discharge completely, then (still wearing gloves) reconnect the positive connector to the battery, tightening the nut fully with the spanner. At this point, after waiting about fifteen minutes, you can restart the vehicle and check that the warning lights have gone out. If they remain lit, it is necessary to take your car to a specialist for further checks.
