The first chain starts from the crankshaft, connected to the oil pump. Also connected to the crankshaft is a second chain that links to a double gear (there will also be a second connection) which is for the high-pressure fuel pump.

From the rear gear, a third chain runs through the head and drives the toothed wheel of the first camshaft, which transmits motion to the second toothed wheel on the second camshaft. This illustrates the complexity of this engine.
