Removing and Reinstalling the Engine Cover on a BMW Z4

Model: BMW Z4 E85, E86 - Years 2002-2008

To remove the plastic engine cover, first ensure that it is cold. The cover is held in place by 4 hex nuts that are 10 mm: You will need a 10 mm socket on a ratchet with a 3/8" drive. Unscrew all the nuts counterclockwise; there is no need to remove them completely, as they are designed not to come off. Some versions have a ventilation tube connected at the rear: if present, disconnect it gently. Once all the nuts are loosened, lift the cover upwards. This is a good time to clean the sealing surfaces on the engine and the cover. For reinstallation, align the cover over the ignition coils, ensuring that each hole is above its threaded stud, then press down until you feel the gaskets seat. Reconnect any tubes and then tighten the nuts.
