How to Replace Ignition Coil and Spark Plugs on BMW 3 Series 330xi E90

This guide shows how to replace the ignition coil and spark plugs on the BMW 3 Series 330xi E90. First, open the hood and remove the six 8 mm nuts that hold the air intake grille. Remove the two plastic covers, the electronic components, and the two 8 mm nuts that secure the upper engine cover.

Pull off the plastic engine cover. Disconnect the spark plug electrical connectors by releasing the retaining clips and pull out the ignition coils; if they are stuck, use a lever while being careful with the connector plastic.

Using a 16 mm wrench, unscrew the center of the spark plug and extract it from the well; use a magnet if the piece remains at the bottom. Reinstall the new components and check that the engine runs properly before closing everything up.
