Learn how to change the timing chain tensioner on your BMW 3 Series E46. Remove the old one using a 27 mm wrench. It may have leaked some oil, like in the video, so be careful to collect any spills. BMW has modified this component to make it stiffer, allowing it to better tension the chain so the engine does not have tension issues. Now, reinstall the tensioner, which may seem in a hard-to-reach spot, but the engine bay is spacious enough to work easily. Refill the oil lost when you removed the worn tensioner, and the job is done.
