If you hear a loud noise or a pronounced squeak from the front of the engine after starting, it means the rubber damper element in the center of the crankshaft pulley is failing: this is a common defect in various engines from the Bavarian manufacturer, and it can even lead to the pulley itself detaching. Before proceeding with disassembly, it is advisable to note the routing of the auxiliary belt around the various pulleys, then loosen the tensioner to remove the belt and proceed to remove the pulley mounting bolt from below. Installation will be done in reverse, ensuring to choose a quality product, such as Corteco.
