To replace the timing chain of the BMW N47 engine, loosen the bolts securing the side panel so that it can be completely removed. Once the panel is detached, access the underlying components by unscrewing the bolts that secure the tensioner: this will loosen the timing chain, allowing it to be removed from its housing. After the old chain has been removed, insert the new one and cover everything with the previously removed panel.
