How do you replace the timing chain of the BMW N47 engine?

Model: BMW BMW Various
Part: Timing belt

Video tutorial

In order to replace the timing chain of the BMW N47 engine, you need to access the side of the engine block, so that you can loosen the covering panels in this area: once these panels have been removed and the valve cover has also been removed, you will be able to release the chain.

To do this, you will need to loosen the screws that secure the chain tensioner, remove it completely and then insert the new chain: this can now be tensioned and then checked to ensure that everything is working properly.
