Replacing Leather Shift Boot

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006
Part: Transmission

Is the leather covering your shift lever worn out? There's nothing simpler and quicker to replace! Start by placing the shift lever in the 'NEUTRAL' position, and with a firm grip on the shift knob, pull upward with controlled force to extract the internal gear. Now, using a lever, preferably plastic to avoid damaging other plastic parts of the car, remove the leather cover after disconnecting all the connectors on the back. You will notice that by unlocking the 4 tabs on the back, you can remove the old leather and install the new one.
