Instructions for Disassembling the Ashtray Compartment

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

If the ashtray compartment lid does not close anymore, you need to disassemble it. Start by pulling the knob of the gear shift lever, then remove the shift boot. Next, disassemble the trim at the base of the gear shift lever by disconnecting the connectors for the crystal buttons. Then, remove the small storage compartment located just below the climate control buttons to access the screws securing the ashtray compartment. This will allow you to extract it from its location and complete the disassembly by removing the anti-skid button bar attached to it.
