Before starting this operation, it is essential to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and wait a few minutes to allow the capacitors to discharge completely. Remove the lower and upper covers of the steering wheel, insert a thin flat-head screwdriver into the back of the steering wheel to reach the metal clips and release the airbag, repeating on the other side.

Disconnect the electrical connectors of the airbag and the horn. With the airbag removed, you will have access to the central nut that secures the steering wheel.

Using a suitable socket, unscrew it and also remove the steering wheel.

How to Disable the Safe Lock on a Volkswagen Golf

The safe lock is an anti-theft system that prevents thieves from accessing the vehicle. This device locks the doors, both externally and internally, when the driver activates the central locking remote after leaving the vehicle. To disable it permanently, you need to use a diagnostic program like VCDS, which connects to the vehicle via the OBDII port. Wait for the connection and recognition of the control unit, then select the locks present and locate the safe lock to disable it. The job will then be complete.
