To dismantle and clean the EGR valve on a Citroën C3 1.4 HDi (2003), the mechanic in the video first removes the air filter box to access the valve. The EGR valve is located behind the engine, on the intake manifold side.

In the video, the YouTuber struggles with the bolts due to limited space (the starter and cooling pipes are in the way). It is recommended to use extensions and a ratchet to reach the screws. The valve is secured with two Torx T27 bolts.

Once unscrewed, disconnect the electrical connector (or the vacuum hose, depending on the version) and remove the valve. In the video, the valve is completely blocked by carbon deposits.

To clean it, use a specific EGR spray or brake cleaner, allowing it to work and removing deposits with a brush. Be careful not to damage the metal gasket.

After cleaning, ensure that the valve moves freely. Reassemble everything and clear the errors with a scanner.

The 2003 C3 has a pneumatic EGR valve (operated by vacuum), not electronic. To test it, apply vacuum with a hand pump and check that it opens.

Later versions (2009-2016) have an electronic valve, with a connector to disconnect.
