Video tutorial
In this video, we are explained how to perform the test of the coil and the ECU functionality on the Fiat 500: these are defects that occur with a certain frequency on this car, so being able to perform a test is important; a faulty coil can also damage the ECU. To test it, we must test all four pins of the coil compared to the first one, which is the common input at 12 Volts and the output should be between 0.3 and 1 Ohm. If these measurements are correct, we must check that there is no internal short circuit between the primary and secondary coil. If the reading is not good, it means that the ECU has been damaged and will need to be replaced, after which a relearning procedure must be followed: we start the engine and let it warm up above 77°C, and with the gear lever in neutral, we accelerate three times up to 4000 rpm, then release the pedal completely, bringing the rpm down to idle. We turn off the engine and wait for a minute to let the information be stored.
