Let's see how to fix the fuel cap of a Fiat Grande Punto: the cap in question keeps spinning even when it is locked with the key. To repair it, we need to remove it. Underneath the cap, there are tabs that hold it in place. Once we have identified them, we start from there to completely unlock and open the cap. Inside, we can see the locking mechanism. When the key is in the locked position, it no longer engages with the internal pins. So we need to continue disassembling the cap. Using a screwdriver, we remove the metal clip, put the key in the open position, and pull it forcefully upwards. The cylinder comes out completely. Inside, we extract the small plastic gear. One solution would be to replace it, but it is only a temporary fix because the metal cylinder will wear it out again. It is better to add a small metal shim to the edge to rebuild the thickness and prevent it from wearing out again. Now we can reassemble everything, ensuring the key functions correctly.

How to open the bonnet of the Volkswagen Polo
