When to Replace the EGR Valve on the Fiat Grande Punto

The EGR valve functions to reintroduce a portion of the exhaust gases back into the intake to reduce emissions. Constant contact with exhaust gases, often contaminated by oil leaks and unburnt diesel, tends to dirty it to the point of completely clogging it and causing it to jam. It is not easy to determine when the valve should be replaced, as it is not so much related to mileage but rather to driving style and the type of journey. If you drive a lot in the city, the valve will tend to clog prematurely. Therefore, it is advisable to clean both the valve and the intake manifold during routine maintenance.
