How to Replace the Steering Tie Rod End of an Iveco Daily

The steering tie rod end of the Iveco Daily can wear out, creating dangerous play. To check it without removing the wheel, lift the vehicle, grasp the wheel horizontally, and move it: if you hear a "click" or a movement of half an inch, the tie rod end needs replacing. To replace it, loosen the locknut with a 24 mm spanner. Unscrew the top nut (22 mm) almost completely. Use a hammer to tap on the nut and free the tie rod end. If it is stuck, heat the housing with a flame to facilitate removal. Clean the housing and mark the number of turns to unscrew the old tie rod end. Fit the new tie rod end (you can find it on eBay with code 123957470093 for £16.50, with free delivery) screwing it in the same number of turns, tighten the top nut with a torque wrench to about 70 Nm (the correct torque is 60-83 Nm) and tighten the locknut. Refit the wheel. After replacement, it is advisable to have a wheel alignment to ensure the steering is straight.
