The procedure explains how to extract the climate control controls on Mercedes E-Class (W210) from 1997. Required: pair of car radio extractors (pointed) or small and thin metal / plastic tool, 12v 2w T5 lamp. Procedure: the climate control panel is positioned at the top in the central part of the dashboard, immediately above the radio system. Note the two small slits in the two lower left and right corners. These are its stops that once pushed inside with the tool will release the console, allowing it to be extracted like a drawer. Insert the tool into one of them and you will hear a small click. With one hand, slightly pull out the corresponding side, without forcing. Repeat the procedure on the opposite side and the panel will be extracted easily, in the same way as a normal car radio. The lamp is centrally located on the underside of the console, contained in a round white plastic pawl. It is removed by simply turning it counterclockwise, 90 degrees. It is a common T5 lamp easily available online, it must be purchased complete with lamp holder. Once the defective one has been removed, reposition the new one by inserting it and rotating it clockwise 90 degrees. Reposition the console by inserting it into the compartment and sliding it gently until you hear two clicks, which certify that it has been locked. Maximum attention and care is recommended in movements because the plastics that make up these systems are rather fragile.
