Replacing Climate Control Bulb on Mercedes W210/W208

This procedure explains how to remove the climate control unit on a 1997 Mercedes E-Class (W210). Tools needed: a pair of radio removal tools (pointed) or a small, thin metal/plastic tool, T5 12V 2W bulb. Procedure: The climate control panel is located at the top center of the dashboard, just above the radio system. Note the two small slots in the lower left and right corners. These are clips that, when pushed in with the tool, will unlock the console, allowing it to be pulled out like a drawer. Insert the tool into one of the slots, and you will feel a small click. With one hand, gently pull out the corresponding side without forcing it. Repeat the procedure on the opposite side, and the panel will come out easily, just like a regular car radio. The bulb is located centrally on the lower side of the console, housed in a round white plastic socket. It is removed simply by turning it counterclockwise by 90 degrees. This is a common T5 bulb that can be easily found online; it should be purchased complete with a socket. Once the faulty bulb is removed, insert the new one and turn it clockwise by 90 degrees. Reinstall the console by placing it back in the opening and gently sliding it until you hear two clicks, which confirm it is securely locked in place. Exercise maximum care and attention during this process, as the plastics that make up these components are quite fragile.
