Instructions for Removing Steering Wheel with Airbag

Model: Mini Mini R52, R50, R53 - Years 2001-2007
Part: Steering wheel

Open the front bonnet and ensure it is securely supported to disconnect the positive terminal of the battery (this prevents any warning lights from activating). To remove the steering wheel, you must first take off the airbag, which is bolted to the wheel: on the back of the wheel, there are two access holes for inserting a Torx key to unscrew these screws. Once the airbag is removed from the wheel, disconnect the detonator connectors by first removing the safety clip. At this point, you can unscrew the steering wheel's fixing bolt and remove it: it is advisable to pull the wheel off with the wheels straight and mark a reference point with a marker.
