Video tutorial

The video shows the installation of a reversing camera on an Opel Meriva B with the CD 600 infotainment system and original display. The chosen solution is an interface module available from Car.Interface.Com. The CI-RL1-GVF1-OP module costs £260 and allows you to view the video signal on the original display without replacing the radio.

The kit includes: interface module, CAN box (to read signals from the CAN bus, including reverse and speed), and wiring. The camera must be purchased separately: it is advisable to choose a specific model for Opel that does not require drilling the bodywork and replaces the number plate light.

Disconnect the battery, remove the side covers of the dashboard, and unscrew the four screws of the control panel. Extract the radio unit (CD 600) by unscrewing the fixing screws.

Connect the interface module to the back of the radio. The CAN box should be connected to the interface and receives power and CAN signal.

For power, you can use lever connectors to derive the 12V and ground, avoiding current thieves. The module should preferably be connected behind the monitor (not to the radio), as specified in the instructions.

For the camera: remove the tailgate plate, pass the cable through the rubber grommet, connect the power to the reverse light, and the video signal to the module. When engaging reverse, the image will appear on the display with guide lines.

The job requires patience for cable routing, but it is within the reach of a hobbyist.
