See how this YouTuber decided to make a DIY alcantara gear gaiter. First, he removed the old worn gaiter and retrieved the plastic base that will be used for the new one he will make himself.

He carefully unstitched the old gaiter to have the exact measurements for the new one. In the meantime, he obtained a piece of alcantara in his preferred colour, with enough size to create the gaiter. He cut it after pinning it with pins and, as we see, even made some contrasting stitching.

At that point, all that is left is to reassemble it and enjoy the result.

Replacing the Gear Knob on the Renault Espace
