How to Replace the Timing Belt

The following video shows you how to replace the timing belt on the Peugeot 206 Plus. First, the necessary tools for the operation are listed: a 10 mm bolt and a 6 mm bolt for the camshaft, a ratchet with a 10 mm and an 8 mm male square drive. The belt is located on the right side of the engine. The poly belt needs to be removed, so access it: loosen the bolts of the right front wheel (pull the handbrake and place chocks behind the wheels), disconnect the battery, then lift the car with a jack and remove the wheel. Remove the plastic front part of the wheel housing. Now insert the ratchet with the 10 mm male drive into the belt tensioner and remove the belt. Take off the upper and lower covers of the timing belt. The engine timing is adjusted by the 10 mm securing bolt of the cam wheel. The crankshaft is locked by the 6 mm bolt inserted in the flywheel. To fit the new belt, you need to turn the tensioner and secure it, then turn the belt twice. Now secure the tensioner with a 20 mm spanner. The tension is correct when you can turn the belt 90 degrees using two fingers. Now try to start the vehicle to check the tension. Refitting the lower cover of the timing belt is tricky: secure the cover with an M6 bolt; clean the crankshaft wheel and reposition it, tightening its bolts with a 20 mm spanner. Now fit the new poly belt. Refit the plastic cover in the wheel housing. Lastly, refit the wheel.
