The most practical system is to use a voltmeter, which can easily be purchased on Amazon with the code B0CY1S4JZT: an AC/DC device with an LCD display and crocodile clip for the price of 18.99 euros, with free delivery. Set it to the DC 20V scale, turn off the car and wait about twenty minutes: connect the red probe to the positive terminal and the black one to the negative terminal. If the voltage with the engine off is between 12.6 and 12.8V, the battery is healthy; 12.4V, acceptable; 12.2V needs to be recharged; 12.0V or less is critically discharged. Another method is to check with an OBD2 tool (the one in the video is an ELM327 which can be found online at various prices, depending on the platform where it is purchased) and an app on the phone (like Car Scanner ELM OBD2). Here we can see the state of charge in percentage. A visual inspection can also be useful, checking on the body of the battery the alphanumeric code indicating the year and month of manufacture. A battery after 3/4 years is subject to wear.
