You may need to perform this operation to replace the gear gaiter or simply for maintenance. Start by removing the gear knob, then proceed to remove the central part made of clear plastic.

Unscrew the central body and then remove the spring along the stick. Now remove the gaiter, and you have your gear mechanism 'naked', meaning the structure itself is exposed.
