Guide to Cleaning the EGR Valve

Model: Saab 9 3 MK 2 - Years 2002-2014
Part: EGR valve

The EGR valve reduces nitrogen oxide emissions. It is a valve that opens and closes to control the flow of gases. To clean it, disconnect the intake pipes and check for signs of wear, then clean the carbon deposits from the metal return pipe of the exhaust gases and the gas inlet on the valve. When the valve is removed, clean the passage that connects the valve pipes to the engine. Once you have checked that the diaphragm is free, refit the valve to the engine and reconnect the gas recirculation pipe.
