How to adjust the handbrake on a Škoda Octavia?

To adjust the handbrake on a Škoda Octavia, open the rear ashtray compartment to access the screws underneath: these screws must be loosened to remove the covering at the rear of the centre tunnel. Once this covering is removed, you will locate the bolt that allows you to adjust the handbrake's tension; tightening the bolt will reduce the handbrake's travel and make the lever heavier. Conversely, loosening the bolt will increase the travel and make the lever lighter.
