Replacing the Shock Absorber on a Smart Fortwo

Model: Smart Smart 450 - Years 1998-2007
Part: Shocks

Let's look at replacing the shock absorber on a Smart Fortwo. The first step: loosen the wheel nuts, lift the car on a column lift, and remove the wheel. Next, mark with a marker the correct position of the shock absorber. Using a ratchet spanner, unscrew the bolts next to the wheel arm as shown in the video. Now unscrew the bolts securing the shock absorber, then the lower central bolt. If the bolt does not come off, use a hammer and penetrating oil, and fit a threaded rod to support the wheel arm. Remove the shock absorber from its housing and fit the new one onto the plate; if the threads of the bolts are damaged, use a tap to re-thread them.
