How to remove the rear shock absorber on a Smart Fortwo? The first step: loosen the mounting bolts of the shock absorber using a socket spanner, lift the car on a column lift, and remove the rear wheel. Remove the plastic wheel arch liner and begin to unscrew the mounting bolts of the shock absorber from the wheel hub (disconnect the brake line tubes with a screwdriver). Unscrew the bolts on the side, pull the shock absorber out of its housing (place a support under the bar). Fit the new shock absorber onto the car, proceeding in reverse.
