How do you remove the front shock absorber on a Smart Fortwo? The first step is to lift the front bonnet and remove it. Use a socket wrench to unscrew the securing bolts of the shock absorber, then lift the car on a column lift and remove the front wheel. Unscrew the securing bolts of the shock absorber at the wheel hub (detach the brake line clips with a screwdriver). Unscrew the bolts on the side and pull the shock absorber out of its housing (remove the bolts in the front compartment). Compare the old part with the new one and prepare for installation. Fit the new shock absorber onto the vehicle, working in reverse order.
